I just took this out of the public library and it sounds pretty amazing for fantasy fans.
And good news: according to Goodreads this is the first in a series. The opening quote hooked me:

"It is a fact that all who have lived have lived through some loss and heartache. Yes, there is happiness, but everyone alive experiences sadness at one time or another. If you ache you are not unusual - friends disappoint, betrayal is real, and there is always the possibility of losing someone dear. It is worrisome to begin a story beneath shades of shadow and gloom but it is wise to remember that despite all the worry there is magic afoot."

Wizard for Hire (Wizard for Hire #1), (2018)
by Obert Skye

A fifth grade student who is one of HMS Library's most avid readers (you know who you are, SG) pleaded with me to order the rest of the books in this hybrid series (we currently own just the first title).  He let me know it's his favorite series of all time. High praise from this student! And the illustrator of this series is also the illustrator of Julie Falatko's Snappsy the Alligator books. Of course, I will be sure to get these for our library.  This title is the fourth in the series.
