Dear Faculty, Families, and Students,
I am excited to be working and learning with you this year at the brand new middle school! The learning space is completely re-imagined and I plan to work with you to re-imagine the role of the library media specialist to help our students become empathetic, problem-solving, global citizens!
A great way to develop empathy is through story - stories that reflect ourselves and our families' experiences (mirror books) as well as stories that help us understand what others may experience (windows books). A way to spark curiosity is through texts that provide facts and information - something a lot of our readers crave. I plan to share five titles per week from different genres to keep you "in the loop" as to what titles you may want to try for yourselves.
If I do my job right, readers are going to want to read the books suggested through this weekly blog. When your reader has a public library card, he/she can place holds and get books very quickly because public libraries can send books sitting on their shelves to the Barrington Public Library. In addition, readers can download eBooks and eAudiobooks right to their devices if they have a public library card which eliminates the need to pick up or return physical books.
